Make A Statement With Your Own Jewellery

DIY fabric necklace

Fashion is not just about clothes but accessories as well. Accessories add sugar and spice to the outfit. A little like the icing on the cake, the tomatoes in a burger, the painting on a wall or a bright spot in an otherwise dull day.

Today, I’ll be blogging about how to make your own cool accessories. I used to do this when I was younger and an article that I have just come across has brought fond memories of me making jewellery.
The first item of jewellery I remember making was an anklet made from a thin flexible wire covered in beads. The anklet was beautiful apart from the fact that you had to take it apart when wearing it but  nevertheless I was so proud of myself.

The Do It Yourself jewellery ideas are for a cool bangle and necklace.

DIY fabric bangle.

What you will need:

  • Wooden/plastic bangle
  •  Pieces of fabric.
  • Glue
  • Scissors

What to do:
  1. Choose pieces of fabric that you love. The most preferable being fabric that has interesting prints. Cut pieces of fabric into strips that will fit the bangle.
  2. Choose a bangle that has enough surface area to glue fabric onto it.Glue the pieces of fabric onto the bangle starting with the inside of the bangle making sure all the surfaces of the bangle are covered in fabric.
  3. Wait for the bangle to dry before wearing it.
  4. You may make several fabric bangles to match your outfits.

  •  A rope
  •  Pieces of fabric
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Necklace fasteners (optional)

What to do:
  1. Choose pieces of fabric that you love. The most preferable being fabric that has interesting prints. Cut pieces of fabric into strips that will fit the rope.
  2.   Choose a rope that is thick enough to have fabric glued onto it. Cut it to the desired length. The desired length being the preferred length of the necklace.
  3.  Glue or insert the necklace fasteners on the end of the rope. Necklace fasteners can be purchased from several shops. One of them being Kanaiya Ushanga which is situated at Seeds House on River road. You may opt not to use the necklace fasteners and simply tie a knot.
  4. Glue the pieces of fabric onto the rope making sure the whole rope is covered in fabric.
  5. You may add layers of fabric onto the rope to make the necklace thicker and to give it a more durable finish.
  6. You may also add interesting items on the rope such as metal pieces.
  7.         Wait for the rope to dry before wearing it.
  8.  You may make several fabric bangles to match your outfits.
